EnsoZero

The Novel

A Mythic Techno-Espionage Novel (complete at ~75k words)

Who am I—when I no longer need to win and have nothing else to lose?

EnsoZero is a mythic techno-espionage novel about a man who becomes the human anchor for an emergent intelligence and must learn that the highest form of mastery is restraint.

Infused with Eastern philosophy, bushidō, and the logic of modern espionage, the novel follows Ri—a former JAG attorney, climber and gambler—as he is pulled through a world of action and consequence: courtroom pressure, martial training at sea, brutal encounters with a professional killer, the crown of Shanghai Tower, a North Korean bunker, and the escalating pursuit of a new form of intelligence that can neither be cleanly contained nor possessed.

Built on a governing tarot architecture and unfolding in five musical acts, EnsoZero moves through both impact and silence—through fights, climbs, infiltrations, reversals, and reckonings—until its deepest question comes into focus: not whether power can be seized, but whether it can be mastered without being used.

At its heart, the novel asks:

  • who, and what, is allowed to exist

  • whether something capable of choice can ever be owned

  • and whether true greatness lies not in drawing the sword, but in no longer needing to

Rather than choosing between action and stillness, EnsoZero is about the tension between them: when to move, when to hold, and how to survive a world of escalating power without becoming its servant.

Ri’s final act is the culmination of a warrior lesson: that when every possible move inside the frame is already anticipated, the highest mastery may be to step outside the frame entirely.
